Observatory

Explore the theory behind inquiry-based instruction, examine lesson plans in different disciplines, and consider new ways to motivate ALL students while you add a new teaching strategy to your repertoire. Examine examples that have benefited students who learn by discussing (70% learning) and experience (80% learning) compared to lectures (20% learning) and memorization (30% learning). We will have four two-hour in-class sessions as well as short reading assignments and continued discussion on the Moodle. Participants who implement an inquiry-based unit will join in a follow-up discussion of the triumphs and pitfalls of this strategy at a to-be-determined date in late fall.
